It's been a while!

02 Feb 2010

My sincere apologies for not getting on in a long time.  Life has a way of getting in the way of the best laid plans.

It has been quite a year.  A severe fall in late October landed me in the hospital, and healing took a while.  I am healthy now, and busy trying to catch up.

I have reorganized my studio.  I am so excited about it.  I removed the bookcases from the south wall, and put my design wall there.  It is much larger and can accommodate much bigger quilts.  I only have one bookcase in my studio now, this  holds books and some little reminders of who I am.  My stash room is all pressed, folded and put away.  I was amazed with how much fabric I had that wasn't put away.

I have gotten the center of a king-sized southwestern quilt done with the first border.  It will go on my bed (I know, finally a quilt for ME!).  I need to design corner blocks.  I had originally planned on mitering the corners, but the stripe that goes best with the center is an uneven stripe and miters just don't work.  So today I'll get those blocks done and then finish the top this week.

I have also gotten a paper pieced orchid small quilt center done.  It was originally supposed to be a table runner, but I am changing it (of course!) to a small wall quilt.  Need to design a border for it and then quilt it.

I am also working on a cat quilt based on a snail's trail block.

Today was to be a busy day, but with the truck down for repairs, I'll be quilting instead.  Not a bad option, although I wish I could have gone riding this morning.

Here's to finishing quilts and having a wonderful work area!

Welcome

23 Apr 2009

Welcome to my new site!  I am so excited to finally have a professionally done site that reflects who I am.  Please be patient with me as I get all the information loaded.  I think you will be as excited as I am.

This is going to be a busy summer.  I have 3 classes scheduled in Casa Grande, Arizona at Kokopelli Quilts.  The first, a Quilt Mat is my variation on a tote initially designed by Fons and Porter.  I think the changes I made make the tote easier to handle, and further protects your mat and ruler from damage.  It works well even for the shorter quilter.  The other 2 are quilts that I have designed and will be teaching for the first time.  The Blue Plate Special quilt is a quick, beginner-friendly quilt that uses strip piecing and a variation in patch sizes for its impact.  The Milky Way Quilt is a variation on the traditional Milky Way pattern, and is more for the confident beginner.

Horse show season is about to wind down, with only 1 more show in El Paso the beginning of May.  Then we don't have anything until the end of August when we go up to the cool pines in Flagstaff.

Another project that I have taken on is to be on the board (treasurer actually) of HEART of Tucson.  This is a new horse rescue organization in Tucson, and I have been amazed at the need for such an organization.  I guess it's the bad economy, and some of it is just ignorance on the owner's part.  A small part of it is just plain mean spiritedness.  We already have 5 horses in our program, and we just started!  We are now a 501(c)(3), so donations to the cause are tax deductible.  If you would like to donate, please contact me and I will tell you how.  We are working up a website and a way to donate online, but it's not ready yet.

Sooo, come join me on my journey through quilting and horses.  Check on what I've completed, and I'll try to keep you up with what I'm designing and planning project-wise.  Check out my calendar, too!

Have a great week!
